Whiten teeth naturally – no abrasives

I’ve been thinking for a while to write an article about my experience with teeth whitening. It’s been a long way, and I’ve tried different methods overtime. Some have worked, while other did absolutely nothing. Or worse, they even damaged my teeth. Well, in the end, I’ve came to the conclusion that unless you’re going to whiten your teeth  professionally, you really need to have patience.

First of all, I have to tell you that baking soda is not the answer. I know it’s all over internet, and people swear by it, but this comes with an enormous danger. If you have thin enamel, this will damage it more over time, making it even thinner, and, of course, yellow. That happens because the inside of your teeth is actually quite yellow, and the more translucent your enamel is, the harder will be for you to have white teeth.

Luckily, there’s also a non abrasive method out there, that will clean your teeth and make them get whiter and whiter with every use. This “secret” ingredient that I’m talking about is actually pretty common. I am talking about coconut oil. Probably you have already heard of oil pulling and its advantages. Well, I’ve always been that person that can’t use oil as a mouth wash, so I needed an alternative.

Well, I decided to get coconut oil and keep it in the fridge and use it as a toothpaste. Since it gets quite hard from the cold, it is fairly easy to use. I also invested in an electric brush (I use a Philips one). Therefore, every morning, before everything else, I went and brushed my teeth for 2 minutes with coconut oil. After that I also made another 2 min brush with normal toothpaste. I didn’t even use a whitening toothpaste, yet I started seeing results in 8 or 9 days.

Of course, you have to be persistent with this, and use this type of cleaning at least once/day. In addition to that, you also have to take care of the bad habits that make any effort seem in vain. That means quitting smoking (if you do) and pay more attention to coffee and red wine. Those – as well as fruits like blackberries or some grapes stain pretty bad. I’m not saying to stop having them for good, but make sure you either brush your teeth after them, or at least drink a glass of still water.

Anyway, this is what I did in order to whiten my teeth, without using aggressive ingredients. If you decide to give it a try, please let me know how it worked for you.

Xoxo!
